You start lamenting about the fact that if you had taken better care of your when you were young, this day would have never come. You start to wonder if there could be some miracle and you could have your hair back. This condition that you are suffering from is called baldness.

This condition has symptoms like excessive hair loss and lack of hair in the scalp area. Its medical term is alopecia. Baldness and hair loss can be caused due to many conditions but the most common one is hormonal and genetic imbalance. It is more common in men and exceptionally rare in women. Furthermore there is a good chance that baldness can be hereditary but it is not the only reason, which combined with the other reasons results in excessive hair loss and ultimately baldness.

Both men and women have different conditions which cause hair loss and baldness. In case of men, The hormone ‘dihydrotestosterone ‘is major cause of androgeneic alopecia which is also known as male pattern baldness. Some individuals tend to have weaker hair follicles as compared to others and this hormone targets these weak hair follicles which easily shrink under its effect. This hormone is generated when testosterone reacts with the 5-alpha reeducates enzyme. Conditions like scarring alopecia can also cause permanent hair loss. Baldness can also happen due to fungal infections in the scalp and some particular kind of medication like chemotherapy drugs. Baldness could also be the after effect of some major surgery and radiation therapy. Not only this, baldness and hair loss can also be caused by some diseases like typhoid and scarlet fever.

The causes of hair loss in men are a little different when compared to the causes of men. Having said this, hair loss in women is also caused by the hormone ‘dihydrotestosterone’. This usually shrinks the follicles of women after menopause. However hair loss in women is not that intense as it is temporary in most cases and baldness is seen in extremely rare cases. The most common time in which women experience hair loss is right after child birth. This is because of the fact that hair loss in females is caused due to hormonal imbalances.

The level of the hormone known as estrogen rises during pregnancy and as a result, there is growth of hair but after childbirth, the level of estrogen dramatically drops. Due to intensely low levels of estrogen follicles become extremely vulnerable to the effects of ‘dihydrotestosterone’. Due to this, there is excessive hair loss. However, hair loss of this kind is temporary in nature and normal growth of hair resumes after a few months. This is the main factor of hair loss in females, however there are many other factors as well, these include excessive use of birth control pills, replacement therapy of hormones, sudden intense diets and deficiency of minerals like iron and calcium.

There are various ways to prevent and cure baldness. Treating baldness can easier once the causes of baldness are known because sometimes the cure lies in the cause. There are various home remedies for baldness as well. Herbal oils like almond oil should be used to massage the hair daily as this improves the quality of hair and also gives its strength. Strong hair lead to negligible hair loss and that gives you a shield against baldness. Hair growth can be further improved by creating a mixture of curd and camphor. Add about four teaspoons of curd to four teaspoons of camphor and leave the resulting mixture to settle for about half an hour. After that, apply the paste to the affected area. If this practice is done regularly, it will lead to hair growth in that particular region. The most effective natural remedy to every hair problem is lemon. All you have to do is to apply the lemon juice over the affected area and the juice takes care of the rest. Last but not the least, applying coconut milk on the scalp also leads to hair growth.

These were some of the most effective home remedies for baldness. But we should always remember that prevention is better than cure and that it is easier to prevent baldness than to cure it. All we need is to take good care of our hair and be regular in what we do. The rest will take care of itself.
